I’m not going to lie; DIY is not my thing. In fact, I am not a crafty person at all. Any time I try to make a cute cut-off t-shirt, I end up jaggedly sawing off half a sleeve while the other sleeve remains intact. Hand me a pair of scissors and I am bound to horribly mangle some poor fabric. But I digress. After I found this DIY from PS I Made This I decided to give making headbands a try. Instead of braiding three different fabrics/materials together, I stuck with plain, simple, classy lace. It turned out quite good, if I do say so myself!
What you need: [ + a needle and thread if you are going to sew the lace on! ]
Roughly measure a length of lace/whatever fabric/ribbon so it will fit snugly around your head plus an inch or so. Snip off that length. If you want to go the easy-but-still-effective route, tie the lace/ribbon onto the hairband. Voila!
You could snip off the excess lace and be done with it! If you tie it tightly, it should stay.
HOWEVER, if you are like me and want to test your seamstress limits [or are just good with a needle & thread], go ahead and sew on the lace. This will ensure that it will stay on, and it looks a bit neater as well.
Simply encircle some lace onto the hairband and stitch it together with matching thread. Easy, even for one as inept with a needle and thread as me!
The finished product:
Here’s what it looks like on!
Happy Thursday! The weekend is almost upon us!
| Jacket: mom’s | Dress: Free People | Wedge heels: DSW |
If you follow me on Instagram (myeverydayrunway) you will have seen a photo of this dress and will know that it is easily my new favorite dress. The light coral-y peach is so perfect for spring, and the lace overlay is gorgeous and demure without showing too much skin. It hung in my closet until Easter, and now I am eagerly awaiting occasions to wear it.
Life has been so hectic lately, so I apologize for the utter lack in posts. I also apologize for the insane amount of grainy iPhone photos that seem to have become my norm. I only really have time for quick snapshots these days. Please bear with me; I promise I will try to break that habit and get some pretty photos in sooner or later.
Have a lovely rest of the week!
As usual, I cannot resist the temptation of a sale. Luckily for my wallet and my baby-sized college dorm closet, most sales are a bust, with scratchy, shapeless, or just plain unwanted clothes exclusively in sizes XXS or XXL. Let me tell you, when I walked into Urban Outfitters yesterday, they had some amazing deals that I couldn’t pass up! I ended up leaving the store with four new items–including this awesome Holga camera that I cannot wait to use!!
Camera: $29.99 (regular price: $48) | Film: $5 (regular price: $16)
I couldn’t get the lighting quite right; the top is brighter yellow in person.
Top: $9.99 (regular price, $30) | Skirt: $19.99 (regular price: $48)
Needless to say, I’m super excited about my purchases and can’t wait to start using/wearing them! Especially the camera. I would put the film in right now, but I fear I will use up all the film just sitting in my dorm room, taking pictures of my feet or the Christmas lights that adorn the walls. And that would just not be practical.
Happy Thursday everyone. The weekend is almost upon us!!
